Susana Balbo has more than 40 years of experience in the Argentine wine industry. In fact, she was the first female to ever receive an enology degree in Argentina. Susana founded Susana Balbo Wines in 1999 and has various brands under that umbrella.

In this video, Susana explains the shifts she has seen in winemaking in her more than 40 years of experience in Argentina’s wine industry. As she explains, today there is a shift towards fresher, more elegant wines, just as in the 1990s producers shifted from oxidized, rustic wines to dark, concentrated, oaky malbecs.

In relation to her wines, Susana begins by saying, “As you become more confident you do what you like.” For her, new wood and concentration are ways of masking a wine to please the consumer; what she likes is wines with purity and personality that showcase the place where the grapes are grown.
